World-Class Pinot Noir Duo Case
A very special treat awaits you: two of the best New Zealand Pinot Noirs.
In this mixed duo case, you can enjoyably compare the two outstanding wines while saving money.
The mixed case contains:
1x Rippon Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir 2020: Central Otago, along with Martinborough, is the other Pinot hotspot in New Zealand, where top-class wines are produced. And Rippon is one of the pioneers and stars of the region. On the north-facing slope, end moraines meet coarse gravel from schist. Here stand some of the earliest and own-rooted vines of the region.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 97/100. "Extremely perfumed with a pretty ripeness and clarity, offering plums and al-dente strawberries. Some cantaloupe, too. It's medium- to full-bodied with juicy fruit that's lovely and open. You want to drink it now. And do. Crunchy yet velvety and caressing in the mouth-feel from the lovely, open tannins. .... Best in a year or two, but right on."
1x Ata Rangi Martinborough Pinot Noir 2021:
Master of Wine Bob Campbell calls it a "Kiwi classic." Falstaff's Top 100 Red Wine Icon of the World. Only grapes from the oldest vines are used in this premium Pinot Noir. It comes from various vineyards in the small wine village of Martinborough. The legendary Abel clone, allegedly smuggled from Burgundy in the mid-70s, makes up 40% of the wine. The result is a wine in the classic Ata Rangi style - complex, structured, and intensely fragrant.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 97/100. "Lively and vibrant red fruits of wild strawberries and red cherries followed by rose hips, ground spices and a touch of citrus zest. Medium-bodied, finely grained velvety tannins with a delightful acid backbone. Zesty and layered wine with beautiful balance and complexity. It’s already enjoyable but will age gracefully. "
